Where did the name Gun Barrel City come from?
Answer:
The name originated from Gun Barrel Lane, which connected Mabank and Seven Points. According to local historians, the name was first used by J.C. Waits and is a reference to the relatively straight nature of the road. Gun Barrel Lane, eventually became State Highway 198.

Is Gun Barrel City on a lake?
Answer:
Yes, Gun Barrel City is bordered on the west and the south by Cedar Creek Lake. The lake is a central part of our community and one reason that so many people choose to make Gun Barrel City their home.

How good is your school district?
Answer:
Excellent! Gun Barrel City is within the Mabank Independent School District. There are three elementary schools, one middle school, and a new cutting edge high school that opened in 2007. Mabank High School was "Voted One of Texas Top 75 High Schools" in 2006 by Texas Monthly Magazine. It was also listed in the top 1,000 high schools by a U.S. News survey of more than 19,000 high schools nationwide in 2008. Mabank High School athletic teams compete in UIL competitions in District 13 of the 3A Class.

The City of Gun Barrel City is governed by a Mayor and City Council. Day-to-day operations are managed by the City Manager, who is appointed by the City Council.
